Circuits are now able to determine the exact listening environment you are in and adjust automatically. They can detect if your are in a quiet setting, in noise with a speaker present, in noise with no speaker present or listening to music.

One new trend in hearing instrument technology is the use of open ear canal fittings. When the ear canal is “open” and not blocked with a custom molded hearing instrument the results is a more natural sound especially the sound of the patient’s own voice. These circuits also have front and back microphones-the back microphones automatically turn off in noise-providing better separation of speech from noise.

Many hearing instruments today are compatible with Bluetooth technology-this allows the hearing instruments to connect without wires to cell phones, i-pods, home phones and TV’s.
